HOW TO PLAY

Roll. Claim. Reveal.

Roll your dice in secret. Make claims about what's under every cup. When someone challenges, all dice are revealed — and someone loses a die.

Roll

All players roll their dice under their cups. Check yours, keep them hidden.

Claim

Place the black Indicator Die on any legal block. The block number is the quantity, the die face is what you claim: block 3 showing 4 means “3 fours.”

Raise or challenge

On your turn, move the Indicator Die forward to a new claim — skipping is fine, backwards never — or challenge the current claim.

Reveal

Everyone lifts their cup and counts the matching dice. Too few? The claimant loses a die. Enough? The challenger loses one. Last player with dice wins.

DICE & LIES BOARD

Lava vs Lightning

Every claim lives on the track. Move the black Indicator Die forward block by block — the board keeps everyone honest about what was said.

Number blocks

Indicator Die shows 1–5 only. The block number is the quantity: block 3 with face 4 = “3 fours.”

Crown blocks

Indicator Die shows Crown only. Block 3 with Crown = “3 Crowns.” Never mix: no Crown on a number block.

The centre grids

Lost a die? It goes onto the red or blue grid in the middle, so everyone can see who's running low.

THE CROWN RULE

One face changes everything.

Every die shows 1 · 2 · 3 · 4 · 5 · Crown. The Crown is the twist that keeps every claim uncertain.

On a number claim (1–5)

Crowns count as that number. Claim “4 threes” and every 3 and every Crown counts.

On a Crown claim

Only Crowns count — numbers don't. A claim is always for one face type; you can't mix.

More players, more fun
2–6 PLAYERS

Every player adds 5 more dice to the table — so more Crowns are hiding under the cups and the odds behind every claim shift. The bigger the table, the harder it is to tell truth from deception.

2 players · 10 dice
≈ 1–2 Crowns
6 players · 30 dice
≈ 5 Crowns
Each die has a 1 in 6 chance of showing a Crown.
TWO WAYS TO PLAY

Learn it fast. Master it slowly.

FAQs

Questions at the table

Do the red and blue dice play differently in Dice & Lies?

No. Blue and red dice work exactly the same in this dice board game — colour has no effect on gameplay.

What is the black die for in this bluffing board game?

That's the Indicator Die. You place it on the board to make your claim: the block gives the quantity, the face shows what you're claiming.

Can I put a Crown on a number block?

No. Number blocks take faces 1–5 only, and crown blocks take Crown only.

Can I skip blocks or move backward?

In this strategy board game, you can skip as many blocks as you like when raising, but you can never move backward along the track.

Who makes the first claim with 2–6 players?

There's no fixed starting block — the starting player can claim on any legal block. After a challenge in this strategy board game, the player who lost a die starts the next round. (Advanced: if several players lost dice on an exact claim, the challenger starts.)

What happens when I lose a die in this party board game?

Place it on the centre red/blue grid. Everyone re-rolls and a new round begins. A player with no dice left is out.

How do you win Dice and Lies?
